It's an "Inside" Job

With RMT the geometry of the inside of a structure is re-engineered for this purpose while its outside geometry (its shape) remains the same.

Although the approach is different, the purpose is the same: to redistribute stress fairly equally throughout by channeling the forces of load so as to prevent the concentration of tension which otherwise would cause the structure to break too soon.
